Methods to Treat All Types of Acne Scars

Acne must be treated early. Acne left without treatment can lead to scars. Major causes for different types of acne scars are

  • Scar caused by self-manipulation or due to inflammatory acne.
  • Injury to the layer of skin that extends into dermis layer can cause permanent scar.
  • Breakout of comedon can cause scars very faster. Sequels are formed on the surface of the face, which are usually depressed and thickened. Areas in the body with good blood circulation can heal much faster.
  • Infections in the skin can cause severe acne scars.
  • Cystic and nodular acne can form scars on the affected regions.

Types of Acne Scars

There are two main types of acne scars. One is associated with the loss of tissue and the other is associated with the formation of large clusters of tissue.

Type of Acne Scar Due To Formation of Tissues

Keloids are irregular, smooth and firm acne scars that are found over upper body and the face. They develop predominantly in dark skins and are regarded as fibrotic or raised or lobular plagues.

Type of Acne Scars Due To Loss of Tissues

  • Ice-Pick Scars: These lesions are more resistant to all types of acne scars treatment. They are difficult to be treated if they are found more penetrating within the skin.
  • Atrophic Scars: These scares are small and are ivory white in color.
  • Depressed Fibrotic Scars: Fibrotic scars have large and sharp margins along with steep sides. Cystic and nodular acnes cause them.
  • Acne Spots: Brown or red colored scars gradually fade without creams or acne scars treatment. Pink hyper pigmentation is seen over the skin.

Treatment for Acne Scars

Use of acutane administered orally does not remove the scars caused by acne. With the retinoic acid, damaged skin can be improved but there will not be improvement in healing.

Avoid cosmetic surgery to remove scars caused by acne. Post-inflammatory pigmentations disappear after three to four months. Other methods to treat scars involve debrasion, collagen implants, chemical peels and silicone injections.

Scar Excision

Surgical methods to remove scars involve the use of anesthesia and scraping away of the skin under the scar tissues. They are advised for acne that leave deeper scars and have longer period of recovery.

Microdermabrasion

Outermost layer of the skin is peeled off to provide a smooth look. This surgical method can be used along with other cosmetic procedures such as chemical peel off technique.
